As part of FAU’s Emerging Talents Initiative, the chair of computer architecture conducts research that aims to improve the energy efficiency of traditional processor architectures.
To this end, a microscopic, analytical, and easily extendible energy model is being developed. The model should be able to predict the energy cost of fundamental events inside of processors. The model could then be used to evaluate different hardware implementations of various processor components. In addition to evaluating existing designs, the insights enabled by the analytic nature of the model should enable processor architects to deduce energy-efficient designs.
